Unter der Bezeichnung angeborene Ideen muss guy sich hier jene Kenntnisse vorstellen, die der Mensch seit seiner Geburt in sich trägt und die somit nicht aus der Erfahrung stammen. was once guy unter diesen angeborenen Ideen zu verstehen hat und wie guy sie begründen kann, stellt das Zentrum dieser wissenschaftlichen Arbeit dar. Der Titel „Die angeborenen Ideen bei Platon und Leibniz“ macht bereits deutlich, dass hier zwei Philosophen im Fokus der Betrachtungen stehen sollen. Einerseits soll der antike Philosoph Platon und anderseits der neuzeitliche Philosoph Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz im Bezug auf die Lehre der angeborenen Ideen betrachtet werden. Die Erkenntnistheorie als Disziplin der Philosophie, die sich mit den Bedingungen, Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der menschlichen Erkenntnis beschäftigt, ist erst um 1830 entstanden. Der Gegensatz zwischen Empirismus und Rationalismus existiert erst in der Neuzeit. Aber trotz dieser Tatsachen hat sich bereits Platon in der Antike mit dem Wissen im Menschen beschäftigt und die Lehre der angeborenen Ideen gegenüber seinem Schüler Aristoteles vertreten. Die Vorstellung von den angeborenen Ideen kann guy deshalb auf Platon als seinen Urheber zurückführen. Der Rationalist Leibniz hingegen hat die Lehre der angeborenen Ideen, die guy auch Apriorismustheorie nennt, von Platon übernommen und sie auf eine neue wissenschaftliche Grundlage gestellt.
